Health POWER Year One: 2020

In 2019, the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota launched Health POWER (People
Organizing and Working for Equitable Results) Initiative, awarding contracts to 15 projects that engage community
members in improving community health and addressing health inequities through policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes.

The 15 projects, working in the areas of physical activity, healthy eating, and reducing commercial
tobacco use, are supported in their work through participation in a learning cohort.

The summary below describes the work of FamilyWise’s Tribal NEAR Science and Community Wisdom Project, in their first year of the initiative.
